Wander Control
Patients with dementia can be issued with an 0940 wrist tag. When the patient comes within range of a reader, a door can be locked to prevent wandering and/or an alarm can be signaled, alerting nursing staff.
Bewator/Siemens pioneered Dual Discrimination Technology to provide a further level of security and convenience. Nursing Staff are issued with a Cotag 928 Card and patients with 942DD Wrist Tags. Patients can be accompanied by authorized personnel without hindrance around the facility. Yet an alarm or a door lock mechanism will activate if vulnerable patients are without the necessary escort.
Infant Security
Using the same principle in baby units allows infants to be matched to their mothers and to specialist medical staff using tags. Regular routines can be carried out. However, an unauthorized person attempting to remove a baby will trigger an alarm or door locks.
Siemens tags are specially designed, with US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approval for continuous skin contact. They can be used regularly in a medical environment being waterproof and dustproof. Fully potted with polycarbonate shells, they can easily be disinfected and there is a choice of secure or buckle strap.
Siemens long range hands free reading technology is invaluable, for example, where staff need to push equipment, carry medications, or assist patients.
